How to Lose Weight with Coleus Forskohlii

Coleus forskohlii has been considered as an important Ayurveda herb for a long time. The health properties of the plant are ensured by its component forskolin. Moreover, forskolin is widely used for weight management. If you want to lose several pounds with the help of herbal therapy, then you better ask your doctor’s permission first.

Health Benefits

Forskolin has antibacterial properties which were tested on animals. For example, if mice suffering from Escherichia coli diarrhea were treated with this chemical component,  the number of the bacteria decreased. Forskolin is also characterized by its bronchodilation effects. A study showed that this component works for treating asthma attacks in both adults and children. It has antiphlogistic and anti-thrombocyte properties that help treat heart disorders. Moreover, it is also used for fighting tumors as well. There are lots of appetite suppressant supplements nowadays, and many of them contain extract of Coleus forskohlii that helps people lose weight.

What Did Research Results Show?

In 2005, a study was conducted. According to the received results, consuming forskolin is a great way for men suffering from excessive weight to lose a few pounds. Those taking the herbal component could lose fat mass and increase their lean body mass. Moreover, their bone mass was increased as well.

Are There Other Results?

For comparison, in 2005, a study showed that forskolin has no weight-loss magic. Twenty-three women suffering from excessive weight were prescribed either a forskolin supplement or a placebo two times a day for three months. Those taking the forskolin supplement experienced less tiredness and hunger. However, the supplement didn’t show any weight loss benefits and didn’t prevent weight gain as well.

How Does It Work?

The principle of its work is to stimulate adenylate cyclase, increasing cell levels of cyclic AMP that is a vital cell-regulating compound. If the level of this compound is low, then individuals face various health problems, such as eczema, angina, obesity, and others. A study conducted in a laboratory showed that forskolin boosts the process of lipolysis when fats are broken down.

How to Use the Extract

There are two different forms of forskolin: tablets and liquid. All of them have various dosages. The most common ones include 50 mg of Coleus forskohlii standardized for 18-% forskolin and 125 mg of it standardized for 10-% forskolin.
